ORANGE


One orange provides 130 % of your vitamin C needs for the day, boosting the immune system.
Oranges also contain vitamin A, calcium, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B-6, folate, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, selenium & copper.
Orange fruit is tonic, stomachic, carminative.
Oranges are good for vital metabolic processes & the maintenance of health of tissues & organs.

Soluble fiber in orange helps to lower blood cholesterol levels & may protect against heart & circulatory disease.

Sweet orange juice acts as a mild laxative & is very effective during cough & cold, fevers, general debility, dimness of vision, anemia, lassitude, constipation, scurvy & headache.

Dried Peel Tea:

2 g in 150 ml boiled water, 3x daily.

Swede & Carrot Salad with Raisins


1 big swede
3 carrots
1 orange
140 g raisins
1 tbsp sugar
Grate your carrots & swede with bigger grater.
Add raisins & juice of orange.
Mix in the sugar.

Liver Pate with Orange


100 g butter
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 garlic clove, crushed
250 g liver
Finely grated zest of 1/2 orange, plus 1 tbsp juice
1 tbsp brandy (optional)
Melt half the butter in a large frying pan over a medium-low heat.
Add the onion & cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring, until soft.
Add the garlic & cook for 1 minute.
Remove with a slotted spoon & set aside.
Cut away any discolored bits from the liver, which will taste bitter.
Rinse under cold running water, then pat dry with kitchen paper.
Return the frying pan to a medium-high heat.
When the butter from cooking the onions is hot, add the liver & zest.
Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring, until browned but the liver is still pink in the middle.
Add the brandy, if using, to the pan & bubble for 30 seconds.
Transfer the liver & any juices to the bowl of onions.
Set aside to cool slightly, then tip everything into a food processor.
Add the remaining butter & the orange juice & whizz for a few minutes, until really smooth.
Season & spoon into a bowl.
Cover & chill for 1 hour, until firmed up.
Serve at room temperature.

It will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Fanta Orange Marmalade with Chocolate

1 kg marmalade oranges, peeled & cut roughly
250 ml sugar
500 ml Fanta
50 g chocolate
peel of half of orange & lemon, sliced very finely
Boil oranges in the Fanta until soft & mushy.
Press them through the sieve.
Put back into the saucepan along with citrus peels & sugar. Boil fast ca 20 min.
Wash 3 x 250 ml jars & rinse. Place jars on to a baking tray & heat them in a 200C oven.
You can check if marmalade is ready by dropping a bit on to the cooled plate, if marmalade sets, it's ready.
Pour the hot marmalade into the jars,let cool a bit & stir in the chocolate bits.
Close the leads tightly.

BEAUTY:

The orange peel is valuable in the treatment of pimples & acne.
The peel, pounded well with water, should be applied on the affected areas.

Egg Yolk Mask:

1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp olive oil
1 slice of lemon or orange with peel
Mix the egg yolk with oil, pour over the citrus slice, leave for 10 min, covered.
For getting right thickness add some flour.
Apply the mask over the face & neck for 10-15 min.
Rinse off with warm parsley infusion.

Revitalizing & Peeling Citrus Mask:

1 egg yolk
1 tsp honey
1/8 cup fresh citrus (lemon, orange or lime) juice
1 packet plain gelatin
Mix together thoroughly & apply to skin for 20 - 25 minutes.

Banana Face Mask for Healthy Glow:

1 banana, mashed
1 tbsp of orange juice
1 tbsp of honey
Mix.
Apply to the face & keep the mixture on for 15 minutes.
Rinse with lukewarm water.

Heavenly Honey Citrus Mask:

3 tbsp of orange juice
half a cup of honey
Combine.
Apply to the face & leave on for half an hour.
Rinse with lukewarm followed by cool water.
This mask is a quick fix to give your face an organic healthy glow.

Anti-Wrinkle, Anti-Age Spots Mask:

1 tbsp sour cream or natural yogurt
1 tsp juice from orange
Keep the mask on face for about 5 min, rinse.

Youthful Skin Mask:

1 egg yolk
1 tsp orange juice
1 tsp Olive Oil
Mix everything & apply to the skin.
Use every morning 15 min before shower.

Citrus Peel Scrub:

1 tbsp of dried citrus peel
2 tbsp sour cream or plain yogurt
1 tsp honey
Mix it all until smooth.
Massage into damp skin & rinse well with warm water.
Store any leftover scrub in the refrigerator.
Whenever you use a citrus fruit,save the peels. Dry them & ground in the food processor or coffee grinder.
Dried citrus peels make wonderful face & body scrubs!
