WALL PENNYWORT


The leaves are mildly analgesic.
Juice is used externally for shingles.
The juice & extract of the plant have an old reputation for the treatment of epilepsy.
A decoction of the leaves is considered to be cooling & diuretic & the juice is said to be excellent for treating inflammations of the liver & spleen.
The leaves are also made into a poultice & used in the treatment of piles, slight burns & scalds
Can be used to cool minor burns & grazes by removing the lower surface skin on a leaf & applying it to the wound.
Being used as a bath, or made into an ointment, it cools the painful piles or hemorrhoidal veins

RECIPES:


Leaves have s very acceptable mild flavor in the winter & early spring.
Pennywort is great with mixed rocket & wild onions or garlic on baked spuds.

The leaves are a good addition to any salad as they have a fleshy crunchy texture & tasting very much like mangetout peas; they can also be added to stir fry’s & stews.
When you are using the leaves as a food source it is better to use the younger specimens, because as the plant matures it becomes bitter to taste.

It is used to treat spots & pimples.
