GARLIC


Garlic contains volatile oils of allin, allinase & allicin, sulphurous compounds, selenium & vitamins A, B, C & E.
The volatile oils & sulphurous compounds are responsible for both its pungent odor & its medicinal properties.
Garlic has antioxidant & anti-inflammatory effects that fight a variety of ailments.
It is one of the most powerful natural antibiotics & antiseptics.

Garlic is high in iodine & sulphur, hence good for goitre.

Garlic stimulates the activity of the digestive organs, is used to emulsify the cholesterol & loosen it from the arterial walls.
Garlic cures intestinal lung disordersworms, skin diseaseswounds, ulcers, skin infections, slows down aging.
Garlic is an effective detoxifier of blood & lymph in the body.
Garlic purifies the blood, helps control acne.

For toothache squash a clove of garlic, wrap in a bit of cloth & insert into ear on the side of the pain.

In case of the acute earache insert a clove of garlic into the affected ear.

Apply a fresh slice of garlic to the wart in the morning & evening. Use a bandage to keep in place. Onions work in a similar way with the wart disappearing after about 6 weeks of treatment.

PRECAUTIONS: 

Garlic can irritate the digestive tracts of very young children & some sources don't recommend garlic for breastfeeding mothers.

Handling garlic may also cause skin lesions. 
Other, more rare side effects that have been reported by those taking garlic include headache, fatigue, loss of appetite, muscle aches, dizziness described as vertigo & allergies such as an asthmatic reaction or skin rash.

Garlic acts like a blood thinner.
Too much garlic can increase your risk for bleeding during or after surgery.
It may also interact with blood-thinning medications.

People with ulcers or thyroid problems should ask their doctors before taking garlic.


RECIPES:

The best garlic remedy uses fresh, uncooked, crushed garlic cloves in a warm tea or mixed with honey.
It is generally taken in 1 tsp doses, 3-6 x a day, with some grated fresh ginger root.
Watch for unpleasant digestive symptoms & decrease garlic intake as needed.
Ginger tea is helpful to reduce gastric upset due to garlic use.

Morning Garlic Ritual:

Every morning keep a glove of garlic in your mouth for 15-20 minutes.
Within the minutes the garlic will reach to the body working in lymphs & arteries.
It will heal chronic bronchitis, anemia, cleans & protects the skin, destroys bacteria cutting down the risks of getting colds & infections.
It will cleanse the blood from toxins & brings out the leftovers of bad cholesterol.
It will heal bleeding gums & protects teeth.
This ritual helps to strengthen the immunity & fight various diseases, very useful against kidney- & liver diseases & helps to flush out kidney stones.
To avoid the garlic breath just brush teeth after & eat parsley or coffee beans.

Garlic Oil:

Crush or finely chop 4 large cloves & place them in a small non-stick pan.
Add 3 tbsp of olive oil.Heat gently until the mixture is just simmering for 1–2 minutes, stirring
constantly.
Pour the contents into a glass jar & leave to cool.
Strain & bottle.
Use within 12 months.

Garlic tea:

Boil 4 cups of  water & cool slightly.
Add 4-5 cloves of finely chopped or crushed garlic, fresh lemon juice & honey to taste.
Drink 3-4 cups daily, either warm or cold, but do not re-boil the solution.
For internal bacterial, bladder & kidney, viral, or fungal infections, parasites, or for respiratory congestion.

Honey Garlic Syrup:

Crush ½-1 clove garlic & place on a tablespoon.
Pour honey onto the spoon.
Ingest the spoonful of honey garlic syrup, every 4-6 hours, as needed.
Use for catarrh, asthma, tuberculosis, regulating blood pressure, heart weakness & internal ulceration.

Fresh garlic juice:

Juice only enough cloves to produce ¼-1 teaspoon juice.
Mix with honey or fruit juice to taste.
Take every 4-6 hours, as needed.

Garlic tincture:

Chop enough garlic to make 1 cup full.
Pour into a jar.
Add 2 cups vodka or grain alcohol & screw the lid on.
Shake the jar daily for 2 weeks.
After 2 weeks, strain out the chopped garlic & store the tincture in dark labeled bottles, in a cool dark area.
Use 5 drops, 4 x daily as needed.

High blood sugar, high cholesterol: Regular intake of garlic cloves for a few days.

Earache: 

Briefly fry a few slices of Garlic cloves in extra virgin olive oil. Let it cool down & then instill a drop or two into the ear to alleviate earache.
Ear infections can be cured with a slice of fresh garlic clove wrapped in gauze & placed just inside of the ear.
Cover the ear with a cotton ball & secure gently with a piece of paper tape.
Change the garlic & gauze every 6-8 hours, until the earache is gone.
A couple of drops of warm mullein oil mixed with garlic oil & placed in the ear canal is also known to speed healing of an ear infection.

Intestinal parasites: 3-4 garlic cloves steeped in water or milk overnight.

For pinworms, a slightly smashed fresh clove can be inserted into the rectum with olive oil.

Bee Sting:

Remove the sting gently.
Reduce swelling with ice or cold water.
Moisten a cube of sugar, apply to the sting.
Sugar sucks up moisture & will therefore absorb the venom; this will also reduce the itching.
Cover sting with slices of fresh garlic,onion, lemon or horseradish.
If fresh garlic or onion is used to treat the sting, the pain & the swelling will lessen.

Infusion for High Cholesterol:

3 cloves of garlic,
2 pinches of lavender &
3 pinches of sage.
Add 1 cup of almost boiling water, cover & leave to steep for 10 minutes.
Drink twice daily.

Chest Poultice for Bronchial Congestion:

Pour a generous amount of olive oil into a pan & gently warm an abundance of minced garlic for a couple of minutes.
Prepare cheesecloth, or an old t-shirt, by cutting it to twice the size needed (based on the chest size).
Place the warmed garlic mixture on half the length of the cloth, folding the other half over to cover the mixture.
Place this on the chest.
Put an old towel over this to help keep the heat in.
For use of garlic in small children, it is best to simply rub raw crushed garlic on the bottoms of their feet & then apply socks.

For a sore throat, lightly roast unpeeled cloves in a dry frying pan, peel them when they grow soft, & eat them.

Ringworm can be treated with the use of fresh minced garlic & a loose non-stick dressing for 1-2 hours only, daily for 14 days.
If the fresh garlic is too painful, try applying garlic tincture daily & covering with a non-stick dressing for 14 days. The garlic tincture does not have to be removed after 1-2 hours.
Ringworm infections can take a long time to heal, continue treatment for at least 1 week after the infection appears resolved.

Treating warts use one slice of garlic & apply directly to the wart, rub some olive oil around the margins of the wart to decrease skin irritation & cover the garlic with a dressing.

For vaginal infections, smash a few garlic cloves & wrap them in cheese cloth. Insert directly into the vagina.
A single, peeled clove of garlic wrapped within gauze & placed inside of the vagina for 8-12 hours may cure vaginal yeast infections.
Remove the gauze & garlic, & replace both with new ones.
Repeat this for 2 days.

Arteriosclerosis, hypertension & bronchial catarrh: 3 cloves of garlic, chopped & boiled in milk & taken every night.

Garlic with Honey for Colds:

Crush 30 g of fresh garlic cloves.
Mix garlic with 1 cup of honey.
Let the mixture sit for 1 hr to infuse the honey with the garlic’s essential oils.
Store in a cool place.
The first sign of a cold, take 1-2 tsp. of the mixture once every hour.
This home remedy is excellent for relieving severe chest congestion & painful coughing, hoarseness & inflammation of the throat.

Cold, phlegm & tropical eosinophilia: 2 garlic cloves crushed, boiled in a cup of water along with 1 tsp turmeric powder.

Severe digestive disorders, dysentery: Take 3 -6 crushed garlic cloves with honey 1-2 x a day.

For Intestinal Upset:
Garlic has been used to help treat ulcers.
Eat 7-9 cloves of garlic throughout the day, with milk or spread on bread.

For infections:
For athlete’s foot, warts, skin infections & acne, rub freshly mashed garlic over the affected area.
Garlic juice with distilled water (1:3), employed as a lotion.

For High Blood pressure:
Place into the cup 20 g of crushed garlic,
mix it with 100 g of sugar,
Fill the cup with boiling water,stir until sugar is dissolved.
Leave to stand in dark warm place for 4-6 hours.
Store in the dark place,airtight.
Take before meals 1 tbsp,3x every day.

Chinese Elixir for Long Life:

Take 0,5 l bottle & fill it with chopped garlic.
Add vodka,until it covers all berries,ca 2 cups.
Leave it to stand in dark,cool place for 15 days.
Add 1 tsp of this tincture to foods every day.

Pickled Garlic:

5 - 6 bulbs of garlic
1 small ginger root
1 tbsp salt
1 bay leaf
4 peppercorns
3 tbsp & 1 tsp sugar
1 cup white wine vinegar
Peel the garlic.
Peel & slice the ginger.
Place 1 l of water in a saucepan, add the salt & bring to a boil.
Add the garlic & simmer for 3-5 min; drain well.
Place the garlic, bay leaf & peppercorns in a small jar with a screw on cap.
In the same saucepan, combine ½ cup of water with the ginger, sugar & vinegar.
Bring to boil for a few minutes.
Immediately pour it over the garlic.
Store the closed jar at room temperature for 1 week.

Almond Garlic Pâté:

2 cups almonds
1 cup cashews, soaked but crispy
1⁄4 cup celery hearts or fennel bulb, chopped
4 tbsp red or white onion, or scallions, chopped
2 tbsp lemon juice
2 cloves garlic
1⁄4 tsp salt
Soak the almonds in water for 8-12 hours.
Blend all the ingredients together in a food processor.
Spread on crackers or flatbread, a dip for celery sticks, or a filling for burritos or wraps.


BEAUTY:

For acne, boils, corns in the foot, warts, etc. mash the garlic cloves & apply externally.
Rub freshly peeled raw garlic on acne afflicted areas 3 - 4 times a day.

MAGIC:

Eating & wearing garlic improves agility, courage & physical endurance.
Garlic is widely used in the Wiccan religion for charms & spells that enhance speed, strength, endurance, protection & to repel evil.
